SKIP BEAT!: Love Me Section Logo

And so…

Skip beat (52)

….. after much struggle, I decided it is for the better good of the world that I strive for world peace and garner the world’s attention to the ever persisting situation of starving orphans and violent rapes in South Africa and the rising need to search for the cure for AIDS, adding to my objective the realism of global warming and abuse of non biodegradable shopping bags that I share this logo with the world.
Simply because I can and because more than 1 has asked. And because it would be a shame to hide this hard work inside my HDD.

You are free to use this image for your cosplays. But I would really appreciate a credit or a link back.

Please DO NOT reproduce, Direct link or claim it as yours.

If possible, I'd appreciate you linking to the blog entry instead. The logo has been handmade by yours truly with the help of a screencap and Adobe Flash. Let's just say a lot of effort was put into it.

Introduction to cosplaying as Kagamine Rin

Hi guys! I’m back with a video and entry to give prospective Kagamine Rin/Len cosplayers an insight into the making of the default Vocaloid costume.CF2010D1-083

This is NOT a tutorial entry but I’ll try to give as much tips as I can and hope you guys like it. Here goes!

*Videos and photos inside*

The Headphone

IMG_1096

My headphone was graciously made by Yuanie who was my Kagamine Len. And she had a method quite different from Inuran’s.

My Kagamine Rin headphones is NOT done using this method. But you might wanna check Inuran’s method out if you’re interested.

It is done with a normal hairband as a base. The earpads are primarily made with cardboard and white foam. The coloured parts are mostly either coloured paper or vinyl tapes.

IMG_1100IMG_1102

Body of the microphone is made with bendable wires and wrapped with white vinyl tape while the tip itself is made by coiling white foam around the wire and sealing everything up with vinyl tape again.

You can attach the ribbon to the hairband by gluing it directly. Or you can do it like me, attaching the ribbons to 2 ( I used 2 for security) rubber band and then tying it onto the hairband. Whichever method you prefer would work fine.

I chose to attach the ribbon to the hairband with rubber bands because I wanted it to be flexible. So if I ever want to use the hairband for other purpose, I can.

The Arm warmers

The arm warmers are done with a very straight forward pattern which I’ll cover that in the future. The LCD patterns on the arm warmer are created with black foam and green velvet cloth. I stuck them on to the Arm warmers with double sided tape, which is a bad choice ^^;

A small tip for those who are having problem acquiring thick black foam. An alternative is to snip them from any old foam mouse pads. They work just as remarkably and you’re helping the environment! ha-ha.

The Belt

IMG_1113IMG_1109

The belt is basically a cloth tube with the edges sewed in. For the triangles, we cut a bunch of diamonds from some yellow velvet and stuck them on to the fabric tube with fabric glue. According to Yuanie, you can use white glue too.

I did my costume in a rush so please don’t mind the ugly stitches =\

The Costume

The costume is just a simple sailor fuku kind of top without sleeves. The more confusing portion would be the musical note on the chest area. It is done by tracing the note on the back of a piece of velvet and then cutting it out. We then stuck the note on to the costume with fabric glue.

My pants are just store bought black shorts.

I’m not exactly sure if you guys would enjoy entries like these so…comment and let me know if you would like to see more ^^ !!

Foam Pouch Template

I was a little pissed when I couldn't find an affordable white pouch for my Idamaria cosplay in the stores . And with the time ticking by, I was left with no choice but to make one.

JIM_2028 copy

And with my past experience in making pouches, I must say they are a b*tch to handle. But I managed to 'invent' a simple method of pouch making with foam. Yes, foam.

Obviously, this kind of pouches are only suitable for certain characters. So use your own judgment =)

Materials you need:

  1. At least B3 sized foam in the colour of your choice
  2. Scissor / Penknife
  3. Sewing equipment ( sewing machine, needle etc)
  4. Pencil
  5. Ruler

Step 1.
Start by measuring and calculating the size of your pouch. Resize the template as required. One very important factor in cosplay that many overlook, is making sure your props and accessories are proportionate to the wearer. So take note that what might look suitable on me might be too big for you etc.

Step 2.
Draft the template out on your foam according to your own measurements.

 Step 3.
Cut the foam along the red solid lines.

Step 4.
Sew along the green and magenta dashed lines. The green dashed lines will be sewed together with the green dashed lines. While the magenta dashed lines will be sewed together with the magenta dashed lines.

Leave the orange dashed lines alone, they appear only as a visual guideline of where to fold. If you need belt holes, then slit the foam along the two red slit lines.

Step 5.
Attach velcro (I used superglue) or your preferred fastener/hooks to the pouch cover and you're done!

As you can tell, using foam eliminates the trouble of having to interlock the edges and gives a nice smooth plasticy effect.

A gentle warning; it might be good to avoid storing heavy objects and suspend the pouch on the slits. Even though the pouch itself is resilient enough, dangling the weight through the slits can tear the foam above the slits.

WCS Summary Video + Cosplay Tips video!

Hi guys! Pimping some videos from youtube ^_^

A 200 3 – 2010 compilation video done by the WS Organizing team. Its a nice way to have a quick recap of all the past contestants and whatnot. Even though I am slightly put off by the obvious race preference in the video footages.

----

And I found another cosplayer on youtube! Aurellion from Youtube gives some insight into what it takes to be a cosplayer and how to start things cracking for your very first Photoshoot. Watch below!

Aurellion covers how to do basic cosplay makeup for female characters

And she gives you an insight and breakdown into what goes on behind a cosplay Photoshoot and what you should look out for. Absolutely adores how much details she managed to cover in this video.

That’s all, Tata!

Kiddy Grade: Agent ID Cosplay Resource

Hi guys, someone messaged and asked where I got my GOTT ID Pass graphic. Adding that no matter how she searched, she just couldn’t find high resolution images of the Pass. And you know what? I totally believe her!. Because I too, couldn’t find any high resolution images of the damn pass at all! I had to manually trace the graphic myself using Photoshop and Flash.07 copy small

 DSC_0256

So, being the generous me *gets bashed* I decided to open these up for sharing. They are not totally accurate because I was running out of time and didn’t include the details but I guess they can be something you can work from.

Click on the 2 images below to download the high res.

Some reference pictures of the pass to share too. Kiddy Grade’s a pretty old title and I’m doubtful if anyone will even need this but ah wells, just in case yeah?

eclair eclair2
I can’t remember which website it was that showed Eclair’s statistics but this is a screencap of that page and they had Lumiere’s information too.
